
























































Round Willow Basket Weaving Course
Weaving is an ancient craft that was once an incredibly important skill to society. Nowadays we have plastic bags and many types of synthetic containers to do the tasks once largely fulfilled by many types of woven containers.
On this course you will learn to weave a round willow basket with a handle style of your choice, be it up an over handles for a log/kindling basket or a hooped handle for a shopping/foraging basket.
This technique of weaving round baskets is an excellent place to start in the world of weaving to give you an understanding of the basics and general principles to start your weaving journey.
The course will be held at the National Trusts Tinkley Gate location in their open sided timber barn, there is also an on site Cafe With delicious handmade food and beautiful views across Woodchester Park below! Please be aware that parking does require payment of £3 for the day.
Be sure to bring a pack lunch and something to drink, or alternatively food and drinks can be purchased from the onsite Cafe if desired.
Itinerary: Timings are approximate as everyone weaves at different speeds.
9.30am arrival and welcome drinks, tea/coffee.
9.40 Safety Brief and the basics of growing Willow and sourcing materials for weaving
9.50am weaving starts with basket bases continuing to staking up the base and weaving the sides.
12.45pm lunch break, either bring your own pack lunch or alternately food can be purchased from the on site cafe.
1.30pm resume weaving sides, covering various types of in fill weaves
3pm break if desired.
3.15pm continue with weaving basket sides moving on to handle options and the finishing touch of a durable boarder to make your basket stand the test of time.
5pm course ends and everyone heads home with their basket!
